The Dental Crowns Process at our Manhattan Dentist’s Office
The dental crowns process is completed in two visits to Dr. Beshar’s Manhattan dentistry office. During the first visit, Dr. Beshar will conduct a thorough examination, discuss the types of dental crowns available to you, and prepare your tooth to receive the crown. Your permanent dental crown will be fitted and cemented into place during your second dental crown appointment at our office in Manhattan. First Visit: Consultation and Preparation
During your first dental crowns appointment at our office in Manhattan, Dr. Beshar will conduct a thorough examination to determine the health of the tooth that will be fitted with a crown. In some cases, the tooth may show evidence of decay or infection, so Dr. Beshar might need to perform a root canal before he can seal that tooth with a crown. Once the health of the tooth is secured, Dr. Beshar will discuss which types of dental crowns will be best suited for your unique situation.
When you and Dr. Beshar have decided which type of dental crown is right for you, he will prepare your tooth to receive the crown. To do this, he will anesthetize the tooth and surrounding gum tissue, then gently file down the chewing surface and sides of your tooth so that the crown can be fitted over the tooth. The degree of preparation your tooth will need depends on the type of crown you will receive, as dental crowns differ in thickness.
Once your tooth has been prepared to receive the dental crown, Dr. Beshar will use a special dental putty to make an impression of the tooth. This impression will be sent to a premier dental laboratory where your customized crown will be expertly crafted to ensure the best fit and appearance. To complete this visit, Dr. Beshar will fit you with a temporary crown that will protect your tooth while your permanent crown is being made.
Second Visit: Receiving your Permanent Crown
When you return to our office in Manhattan for your second dental crown appointment, Dr. Beshar will remove the temporary crown and make sure the fit and color of your crown are perfect. He will then numb the tooth and permanently cement your crown into place. With proper care and maintenance, your new dental crown will keep your smile healthy and strong for years to come.
